PAWS Atlanta: In-Kennel Enrichment Recipes

Simple recipes for the weekly enrichment schedule. For frozen enrichment, prep the items the day before and place them in the D1 deep freezer. Volunteers and/or Community Service can help with prep.

Always pay attention to an individual dog’s dietary restrictions and behavior needs.

Frozen KONG: Stuff with canned wet food. Freeze.
(
Use Orange Toppls for small dogs or puppies only).

Frozen Lick Bowl: Spread a layer of canned wet food on the bottom and sides of a metal bowl. Sprinkle with dry kibble or dog-safe fruit. Top with water or low sodium broth. Freeze.

Frozen Lick Mat: Spread canned wet food on metal lick mat. Freeze.

PB Benebone: Spread peanut butter over a Benebone.

Bubbles: Blow bubbles above the dog’s head for them to sniff and pop! For dogs housed indoors in Shor-Line kennels, you may provide this activity in their outdoor runs before bringing them inside for the day.

IMPORTANT: Notify management when supplies are running low. If there is not enough of one enrichment item to go around, choose another for the remaining dogs in your section. Peanut butter and edible chews should each only be given once per week.

REMEMBER: Click for Quiet is DAILY, and can be done while completing you end-of-day checks.
